ISE Lecture

Information Service Engineering (ISE) will teach you some of the fundamentals of modern information systems. Its overall goal is to enable machines to „understand“ information to improve essential information management tasks such as retrieval, access, exploration, and recommendation. To this end, this lecture provides an introduction into natural language processing (NLP), followed by knowledge representation basics with a focus on knowledge graphs and Semantic Web technologies. Moreover, a brief sketch of machine learning and deep learning technologies complement the lecture to provide some insights on state-of-the-art ISE applications, in particular on semantic and exploratory search.
